modifying the main display panel

I have a friend at work who does a lot of driving at night, and the main screen on his Yamaha Wolverine is just way too bright and messes with their night vision.

He's planning on disconnecting the light on his helmet and wondering if anyone else has figured out a way to make the main display dimmer or even turn it off.

He said he wants a switch to flip it off while driving at night.

I told him about taking the panel apart and modifying it, but what do you think guys?
Has anyone else ever done something similar before diving in?

Yeah, it can be super bright at night and I don't think there is a dimmer on the Wolverine, is there? And then there's also no off switch. That's quite inconvenient so if you're willing to go out of your way right now you can maybe do what the others did which is installing a toggle switch into the backlight power wire OR you can find a screen tint? I think this is easier..

Interesting idea, has he tried adding a dimming film or a toggle inline with the display power wire? Does the backlight have its own wire that could be switched separately?

If your Yamaha Wolverine has a dimming option, you can adjust it by pressing the SELECT button and using RESET to lower the brightness. If it doesn't have that feature, you could try putting a dimmer switch in the power line, but you'll need to wire it right. A cover could also help reduce glare. Sure, putting a simple inline switch on the display's power wire is an easy fix if he knows his way around tools.Some people use tinted film or vinyl to reduce brightness without having to take apart any panels.It's quick and can be reversed if needed.I wouldn't try messin with the helmet lighting though, it's better to sort out the dash first

Okay, gotcha. An inline switch is a simple fix if you're comfortable with that stuff, and tint film is a good, safe bet. Some people even use dimming sheets made for car dashboards. Good idea to hold off on the helmet lights,don't wanna make things worse. I'm wondering, is the problem glare at night, or is it just too bright in general?
